Who or what inspired you to pursue your profession?

My mother is an RN. As a young girl, I always admired the care and compassion she had for her patients. I loved listening to her work stories. She is my inspiration.

How long have you been working with Favorite?

I started with Favorite during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. I went to San Antonio Texas for five days. I was fortunate to re-join Favorite in March 2020 to help with the pandemic.

What is your favorite memory from working with us?

I loved working in San Antonio, Texas. Although it was only five days, I met some amazing people. I enjoyed the morning meetings with the incident command team. I learned so much from the disaster relief team.

In what ways has healthcare changed throughout your career?

Working in the ER, I have noticed a change in diagnostic tests and electronic data. When I started nursing, everything was on paper. I remember switching to computer charting and thinking it was awful, now I can’t imagine going back to paper charting. It’s convenient for patients to receive their medical records online. Diagnostic tests used to take days for results to come back. Now we do a rapid test and have results within 15 minutes.

What is one piece of advice you would give to your younger self in this field?

Listen to your patients! Stay kind and smile. Most patients are scared. Kindness and a smile make a huge difference.

How have your patients inspired you?

My patients inspire me to be strong, courageous and provide them with excellent care.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?

Helping others heal.

What keeps you motivated when times are tough?

My family and friends.

What skills do you think are important to possess to be successful in your profession?

Strong communication skills, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

Tell us what makes you unique! What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or interests?

I enjoy being with my family outside of work. We are very close and do a lot together. Boating on the river and family vacations are by far my favorite.

What three traits define you?

Loyalty, Kindness, and Patience

What are the biggest lessons you have learned while working during the COVID-19 pandemic (personally, professionally, etc)?

I would say take this pandemic seriously. I lost my dad on January 3, 2021, due to Covid-19. It’s the hardest thing I have had to deal with. I believe wearing a mask is crucial. Get your Covid-19 vaccine!
