Labor and delivery RN salary information

On average, permanent contract labor and delivery RNs in the US earn around $82,000 per year but your actual take-home depends on the type of role you choose, your experience, location, and the facility you work at.

Travel L&D RN contracts are where earning potential really climbs. The average weekly pay for a travel labor and delivery nurse is around $2,388, roughly 10% above the general travel nursing average. Most assignments run 13 weeks, and packages typically include housing stipends or company-arranged accommodation, travel reimbursement, and benefits from day one. L&D travel nurses can earn up to $3,500 per week on high-demand assignments, particularly in states with acute staffing shortages. If you have flexibility in where and when you work, travel nursing is one of the most effective ways to maximize your income as an L&D RN.

Per diem offers the ultimate scheduling flexibility. You pick up shifts when it suits you, and get paid a premium hourly rate in return. Per diem RN rates for specialist roles like labor and delivery typically range between $40 and $80 per hour, with higher rates in major metro areas.

Do I need a compact nursing license for travel L&D RN jobs?

 A Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) license lets you practice across 42+ member states without obtaining separate state licenses, which can significantly speed up placement on travel contracts. If you don't hold a compact license, your Favorite recruiter can guide you through the state licensure process for your target assignment location.
