How do I become a registered nurse in North Carolina?
- Choose an accredited nursing program to enroll in. The program must be approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Some options include a Associate’s Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Pass the N-CLEX exam. After you finish your schooling, you must apply for and pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX)
- Apply for licensure. You must complete an application online on the North Carolina Board of Nursing website. With that you must also complete a background check, submit transcripts and pay fees.
Is North Carolina a compact nursing state?
No, North Carolina is not currently a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). Nurses who are licensed in North Carolina can only practice within the state unless they obtain a separate license in another state. There are no current plans for North Carolina to join the eNLC.
Do you provide continued education for North Carolina nurses?
