October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Written by Claudia Garcia | Oct 3, 2018 2:53:57 PM

Every year more than 240,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Breast cancer can also occur in men, although it is much less common – less than 1% of breast cancers occur in men.

Because this disease is so widespread, the entire month of October is dedicated to breast cancer awareness. This month isn’t just about pink ribbons and buying t-shirts, it’s about raising awareness and saving lives.

One of the most important preventative measures is screening and early detection. Because healthcare professionals interact with the public at some of the most critical moments, they have the great responsibility of fully understanding and educating the public on breast cancer and screenings. We all have a part to play in the fight against cancer, and every shade of pink during October is the perfect reminder.
