Physical Therapy Month

It’s All About Movement

Physical Therapy Month October is National Physical Therapy Month. PTs and PTAs across the nation are taking the opportunity to let us know that Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants are passionate about helping people "hands on." They help us regain independence, alleviate pain, and improve our function and our ability to fully participate in our own lives. Because Physical Therapy professionals are movement experts, this year's theme is appropriately titled, "Physical Therapy: It's all about Movement."

Favorite is honored to celebrate National Physical Therapy Month with the American Physical Therapy Association and the nation's Physical Therapists. We salute their mission to empower individuals to take control and regain the movement that is so critical to the quality of life. We are pleased to see that the need for qualified PTs and PTAs is also moving forward, along with compensation rates to match this growing need.

Physical therapy professionals have many flexible options and opportunities available to expand their career horizons. Explore the many opportunities Favorite offers including per diem, short and long-term contract and travel positions, as well as direct or temp-to-perm placement. Favorite's Everyday Heroes

Featuring Everyday People Doing Extraordinary Things!

Favorite's Everyday Heroes Favorite Heroes Emerge in the Aftermath of Hurricane Ike!

We salute all the dedicated healthcare professionals who assisted in the Houston and Galveston areas, as well as all those who responded to our appeal to assist displaced Nursing Home victims!

Throughout and during the aftermath of Hurricane Ike, we watched ordinary people rise to the challenge to assist and serve in heroic ways. Favorite healthcare professionals and employees from our Houston, San Antonio and Dallas branch offices, as well as many Travel and Allied Health professionals, are among those that we salute as this month's Favorite Heroes!

Early in September, Favorite was contacted by a government contractor seeking CNAs to provide patient care in Houston to nursing home patients displaced by Hurricane Ike. We we looked to our employees -- current, past and pending -- to solicit their help.

The outpouring of patriotism and professionalism exhibited by our CNA population was incredible! Favorite has always said that our strength lies in our employees; this could not have been more evident than in this crisis in Texas! Even those who had never before traveled on a contract assignment came forward offering their availability to help in this disaster relief effort.

Fortunately for the nursing home residents, the authorities were able to change direction to allow a more permanent move for these displaced hurricane victims. With this more beneficial change in plans, Favorite's assistance was not required. Government contracts for disaster relief needs are difficult to predict, at best. However, the remarkable willingness and speed of our employees to respond in this initiative encourages us to seek future opportunities to assist in our nation's times of need.

On behalf of everyone at Favorite, we salute all of our employees who so generously offered their assistance to the Hurricane Ike victims. We count you as Favorite Heroes and are inspired by your patriotism, compassion and professionalism.

Joint Commission Sentinel Event Alert

Please review and follow risk reduction procedures at your assigned facilities

Joint Commission Sentinel Event Alert Joint Commission has issued a new Alert concerning the prevention of blood thinner deaths and overdoses. This Alert issued in September 2008 stresses greater attention is needed regarding the dangers associated with anticoagulants, life-saving medications that also present serious risks when administered incorrectly or in error.

As stated in the Alert, "Patients being treated with these medications must be closely monitored and screened for drug and food interactions, given that commonly used anticoagulants such as heparin and warfarin have narrow therapeutic ranges and a high potential for complications. Adding to the problem is a lack of standardized naming, labeling and packaging of anticoagulants that create confusion and can lead to devastating errors".

Joint Commission included anticoagulant therapy precautions in their 2008 National Patient Safety Goals, #3E. You can view these goals in your profile on Favorite's web site by accessing the Annual Training & Orientation Manual or directly through Joint Commission's web site at www.jointcommission.org. Please review this important alert, as well as others by visiting Joint Commission's Sentinel Alert webpage.

All Favorite employees are responsible for following their assigned facilities procedures regarding anticoagulation therapy medications as well as any other medical treatments.
