Back to School with Favorite's Corporate and Branch Offices
This Back-to-School Season found Favorite's corporate and branch office staff gathering school supplies for children living in a local domestic violence shelter. Notebooks, glue, colored paper, backpacks, scissors, folders, pens - you name it! - arrived in time for the shelter's Back-to-School Fair. Branches across the country supported the effort by purchasing raffle tickets for gift baskets donated by FHS Corporate Departments. It was truly a heroic group effort!
We're reminded that anytime can be back-to-school time in domestic violence shelters. Children often arrive in the dark of night with literally nothing but the clothes on their backs. This year, while school supplies are bargain priced, please consider grabbing a few extra items for your local domestic violence shelter.
James Lavine, RN - Sharp Skills Save Lives!
While working for Favorite Healthcare Staffing as a Nursing Supervisor at a Boston hospital, RN James Lavine noticed something amiss with the lab results of a patient. Mr. Lavine acted quickly on this information and these actions identified a significant problem with the patient. As a result, the patient received the intervention she needed to save her life! The hospital and doctor in charge are grateful to Mr. Lavine for his quick action. Good work. James!

Joint Commission Sentinel Event Alert
Please review and follow risk reduction procedures at your assigned facilities
Joint Commission has issued a new Alert concerning intimidating and disruptive behaviors exhibited by healthcare professionals. This Alert issued in July 2008 warns that rude language and hostile behavior among healthcare professionals goes beyond being unpleasant and poses a serious threat to patient safety and the overall quality of patient care.
As stated in the Alert, "intimidating and disruptive behaviors can foster medical errors, contribute to poor patient satisfaction and to preventable adverse outcomes, increase the cost of care, and cause qualified clinicians, administrators and managers to seek new positions in more professional environments. Safety and quality of patient care is dependent on teamwork, communication, and a collaborative work environment. To assure quality and to promote a culture of safety, health care organizations must address the problem of behaviors that threaten the performance of the health care team."

Joint Commission to Recertify Favorite
Review Season is Upon Us
The Joint Commission is scheduled to conduct their re-certification review of Favorite Healthcare Staffing between September 25, 2008 and December 24, 2008. The Joint Commission is the most prominent and well known "watch dog" of Healthcare Providers. In 2004, they developed a program to recognize excellence among the Healthcare Staffing Services Industry by offering Certification to agencies. The purpose of the review will be to evaluate the staffing service's compliance with nationally established Joint Commission standards. Favorite has been continuously certified through Joint Commission since 2005.
As an employee or client of Favorite, you may be asked to participate in our Review. The Joint Commission Reviewers conduct brief phone interviews with randomly selected field staff and clients. The interview may include questions about customer service, orientation to facilities, problem solving and first-hand impressions of Favorite. The purpose of these reviews is to collect experience-based feedback on Favorite.
