Rhode Island Joins the Compact States

Good News for Travelers!

Rhode Island Joins the Compact States Rhode Island is the newest member state of the National Nurse Licensure Compact. Initiated by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, the nurse licensure compact allows an RN, LPN or LVN to practice in other member states without having to get that state's licensure. This state recognition of one another's out-of-state nursing licenses allows additional nurse availability in their states. A nurse must legally reside in a Compact State to be eligible to have a multi-state license and can only work in other Compact States under that license. Legal residency is usually determined as the residence listed on the individual's federal tax return.

The following states have enacted Nurse Compact regulations.

ArizonaMarylandSouth Carolina

Favorite's Everyday Heroes

A New Section Featuring Everyday People Doing Extraordinary Things!

From time to time, we're fortunate to hear stories from our branches and clients about extraordinary ways our employees contribute to their communities and the individuals they serve. This new section, Favorite's Everyday Heroes, will share a few of those stories each month. Please feel free to submit your stories to your local branch office. Available space may limit the number of stories we publish each month, but we'll try and feature all submissions in the News section on Favorite's Website.

Our Favorite Everyday Heroes, Sarah Griph Sarah Griph, LPN, was on assignment with Favorite when she and another employee saved the life of a worker in the facility's cafeteria. When the young man collapsed, Sarah quickly acted in tandem with her coworker to provide chest compressions and rescue breathing. By the time the Paramedics arrived, the young man was alert and breathing again on his own! Thanks to Sarah's up-to-date CPR skills and quick response, this young worker has a second chance at life! Sarah has been a Favorite nurse for five years working out of the Milwaukee branch office. We're proud of you, Sarah!

Our Favorite Everyday Heroes, Amanda Smith Amanda Smith from Favorite's Corporate QA Department is feeling much cooler these days. Amanda recently contributed eleven inches of her own hair to Pantene Pro V Beautiful Lengths charity. This organization accepts such donations to craft wigs for cancer patients. Now that she's made the final cut, Amanda shares, "I like my new style and I wanted to give the gift of myself – something more tangible than money." For more information about this worthy charity, click here. Thank you, Amanda, for your very personal gift!

Protect Yourself From Too Much Summer Sun

Summer is the perfect time for outdoor fun, but take care to protect yourself from the dangers of sunburn!

Protect Yourself from the Sun Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S. During the summer months, radiation from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays is greater. Exposure to these rays is the most important environmental factor involved with developing skin cancer.

Protecting Children from the Sun
Just a few serious sunburns can increase your child's risk of skin cancer later in life. Kids don't have to be at the pool, beach, or on vacation to get too much sun. Their skin needs protection from the sun's harmful UV rays whenever they're outdoors, even at recess! It's a good practice for everyone in the family to apply sunscreen every morning and to use protective strategies throughout the day.

UV rays always reach you - on cloudy, hazy days, as well as bright, sunny days. They also reflect off surfaces like water, cement, sand, and snow. Even UV rays from artificial sources of light, like tanning beds, cause skin cancer and should be avoided.

Most skin cancer can be cured. However, the best way to avoid skin cancer is to protect your skin from the sun with these preventative practices:
  • Seek shade, especially during midday hours (10 am – 4 pm), when UV rays are strongest and most damaging.
  • Cover up with clothing to protect exposed skin.
  • Get a hat with a wide brim to shade the face, head, ears, and neck.
  • Wear sunglasses that wrap around and block as close to 100% of both UVA and UVB rays as possible.
  • Use sunscreen with sun protective factor (SPF) 15 or higher and both UVA and UVB protection. Apply generously and reapply every two hours.
