National Safety Month: Make a Difference!

Safety Reminder! Who's got your back?

Healthcare workers know that their backs work as hard as they do! Therefore, it's not at all surprising that back problems are one of the leading work-related injuries for healthcare workers. Many of these back injuries are caused by unsafe lifting techniques during patient transfers, putting the patient at risk of injury as well as the healthcare worker!

The National Safety Council has designated June as National Safety Month. This year's theme is "Make a Difference." What a great opportunity remind our Favorite employees to "make a difference" by practicing safe lifting techniques.

Safe lifting tips:

• Never bend from the waist only, bend the hips and knees
• Tuck your pelvis in to keep your back aligned
• Tighten stomach muscles to support your back
• Keep your feet shoulder-width apart
• Let your legs do the lifting - bend those knees
• Keep what you are lifting close to your body
• Avoid twisting; lift the object, then turn your body as a whole
• During patient transfers, use the appropriate mechanical lifting equipment and patient transfer systems (sling lifts, gait belts, repositioning devices etc.)
• Know your facilities transfer equipment and procedures; it is your responsibility

401(k) Open Enrollment Period

Enroll in the 401(k) Retirement Plan or make changes to your current plan elections by June 27, 2008!

Open enrollment for the 401(k) retirement plan will run through June 27th for all employees. Open enrollment provides the opportunity for employees to begin participation in the 401(k) plan and current 401(k) participants to change their contribution percentage. Your 401(k) forms can be found on our 401(k) Retirement Page.

Enrollment packets can be obtained on our website, or you can contact your local branch office. All forms must be signed, dated, filled out completely without error, and received by June 27, 2008 in order to be accepted in this open enrollment. Changes will become effective July 1, 2008. Please check your pay stub to ensure that changes were made. The next open enrollment will be in September 2008 with changes taking effect October 1, 2008.

Participants may also enroll or change contribution percentages via the website at www.myretirementfuture.com, or by calling the Interactive Voice Response at (800) 291-1585. To log in to the website or the interactive voice response, you will need your SSN and a valid PIN number. If you have not logged in before, the default PIN is the last four digits of your SSN.
