Less Job-Related Stress for Temporary Employees

One quality-of-life benefit for temporary and contract employees is less stress!

Less Stress for Temp EmployeesA new study researching the quality of life for permanent and temporary employees revealed that temporary employees report lower levels of job-related stress.

The American Staffing Association reported that a study, conducted by Zogby International, compared more than 3,000 permanent and temporary employees in areas related to quality of life, including family time, eating, stress and healthy living habits. In most cases, both segments of workers had similar responses with virtually no measurable differences.

In the area of job stress, however, temporary employees reported less work-related stress than their permanent employee counterparts. Not surprisingly, one of the reasons the study cited for lower stress for temporary employees was “greater flexibility and more control over their employment decisions." These results are consistent with the findings of a 2005 Survey conducted by the American Staffing Association. That study found that “one in five participants in the ASA survey said that flexible work time, choice of assignments, or having time for family were extremely important factors in their decisions to become a temporary or contract employee."

Favorite employees choose temporary and contract assignments for many of the same reasons. By providing per diem, contract, allied and travel opportunities, healthcare professionals can select the options that best suit their lifestyles and career goals. 2008 Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals

New Safety Goals effective January 1, 2008

Review National Patient Safety GoalsJoint Commission approved revisions to the National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) in June 2007. The new Goals will be implemented January 1, 2008.

The purpose of the Goals is to promote improvements in patient safety. Associated with each Goal are program-specific Requirements. These Requirements highlight problematic areas in health care and describe system-wide solutions to these safety-related issues.

As a Favorite Healthcare Staffing employee, you are required to follow the National Patient Safety Goals as identified by Joint Commission. You are also responsible for familiarizing yourself with the facility-specific policies associated with the National Patient Safety Goals and adhering to their policies and procedures.

An especially critical element of these goals is the "Do Not Use" abbreviations and/or symbols list. Familiarize yourself with Joint Commision's "Do Not Use" list and any facility-specific lists concerning "Do Not Use" abbreviations, symbols and "Look-Alike/Sound-Alike Drugs."

You can find the Goals on the Joint Commission web site. Favorite's “Annual Training and Orientation Manual” will be revised to include the 2008 National Patient Safety Goals.
