Nursing in the 21st Century

Advances in technology, including the introduction of the tablet PC, are changing the healthcare industry.

Intel is working with Motion Computing to introduce products based on the Intel mobile clinical assistant platform in the first half of next year. The clinical assistant platform runs on portable products like the tablet PC and could replace standard patient charts. It focuses on the healthcare community’s needs to enhance patient safety, reduce medication-dispensing errors and ease staff workloads.

Products based on the mobile clinical assistant platform could offer a variety of features and technologies including: an exterior casing that can be wiped clean with disinfectant; radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for rapid user and patient identification; and barcode scanning to help reduce medication-dispensing errors.

The platform could also include a digital camera to enhance patient charting and progress notes; Bluetooth technology to record patient vital signs; wireless connectivity to access electronic medical records systems. Its lightweight design seems built for heavy use, and includes an ergonomic handle and a spill- and drop-tolerant casing.

Introduction of this new platform is scheduled to begin in early 2007, with consumer products becoming available the following year.

Travel to Baltimore

Visit this waterfront town as a traveler with Favorite and earn great pay.

Located by Chesapeake Bay, Baltimore is a waterfront town offering cultural and economic diversity. It also has plenty of history—it is the birthplace of Babe Ruth, the final resting spot of Edgar Allen Poe, and the city where the "Star Spangled Banner" was written.

Often referred to as "Charm City," Baltimore has several inviting regions. Downtown's Inner Harbor offers the Columbus Center of Marine Research, and water taxi rides to Fort McHenry. Mount Vernon is the city's cultural hub, featuring art, music, dining and history. Little Italy has the genuine feel of its European namesake. Nearby, Fells Point is a maritime district offering cobblestone streets and cozy pubs. Other attractions include the 178-foot Washington Monument, the B&O Railroad Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art, as well as Memorial Stadium (home of the Ravens), and Camden Yard (home of the Orioles).

The Inner Harbor is a Mecca for visitors to Baltimore. This square shaped waterfront is dotted with many attractions including museums, shops and restaurants. The USS Constellation battleship anchored there is a delight for exploring, as is the Torsk submarine. The National Aquarium immerses children and adults alike in a magical marine world of sharks, dolphins, and, soon-to-come, a recreated Australian underwater habitat. In addition, Baltimore is home to the Maryland Science Center.

If art is more your speed, the Baltimore Museum of Art is world-class, housing a permanent collection of more than 130,000 works. Pieces by Matisse, Picasso, Monet and van Gogh are included in the famous Cone Collection. The museum is also home to the second largest collection of works by Andy Warhol on regular public display in the nation.

A trip to Lexington Market, the nation's oldest market is a must. Merchants advertise their goods the old fashioned way - they shout old-time chants. Among items that you'll certainly want to sample are fresh baked cinnamon rolls and fresh Chesapeake Bay oysters and clams.

North of downtown is Mount Vernon, a stately neighborhood of elegant row houses and tree-shaded parks. This is Baltimore's cultural corridor: The Walters Art Museum, the Peabody Library and Conservatory of Music, Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, the Lyric Opera House, and Center Stage are found there. Farther north is the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. Ringed by the neighborhoods of Charles Village, Waverly and Hampden, this part of town is also home to the Baltimore Museum of Art and its peaceful sculpture garden.

With so much to see and do, you'll want to spend some time in Baltimore. Favorite offers 12 week assignments that ensure you'll be earning the pay you deserve and still have the opportunity to explore all that Baltimore has to offer. Family Health & Fitness Day

The nation's largest Family Health & Fitness event set for September 30, 2006.

Thousands of adults and children are expected to participate in the 10th annual Family Health & Fitness Day USA (FHFD) held on Saturday, September 30, 2006.

Families will participate at locations throughout the country. Events will take place at community sites including hospitals, health clubs, YMCAs, state & county health departments, park districts, houses of worship, and schools.

Organized as a public/private partnership by the Health Information Resource Center, Family Health & Fitness Day USA was conceived, in part, as a response to the U.S. Surgeon General’s Report on Physical Activity and Health. This landmark report made it clear that health benefits can be obtained from moderate physical activity on a regular basis. In addition, the Surgeon General’s Report stated that the majority of Americans, and especially children from 12 to 21, are not exercising nearly enough.

This year’s programs will include exercise demonstrations, health fairs, family walks and more. Most programs involve family activities as well as education and information about health and fitness topics.
