Travel
to Maine!

Maine
will surpirse you with its diversity and excitement.
Beaches
in Maine? You bet! Maine beaches come in many sizes and shapes.
White sand ocean beaches cover much of the southern Maine
coast and dot the rest of the 5,500 miles of Maine coastline.
By day, beaches are teeming with people building sandcastles,
body surfing, searching for seashells and just soaking in
the sun. In the evening, the low rumble of the surf crashing
upon the shore offers a soothing backdrop for a romantic stroll.
Like
mountains and camping? The Maine Highlands is the place for
you. Here you will find plentiful moose and deer; abundant
parkland, including 200,000-acre Baxter State Park; Moosehead
Lake, the largest in the Northeast; and mile-high Mt. Katahdin,
the tallest peak in Maine. Outstanding whitewater rafting
on the Penobscot and Kennebec Rivers is offered, Maine’s
prime rafting areas. Enjoy all types of outdoor recreation,
from canoeing/kayaking and camping to snowmobiling, skiing
and snowshoeing. Truly an outdoorsman’s paradise, The
Maine Highlands is also home to some of the best hunting and
fishing in the east.
A
little bit of both? Discover Downeast & Acadia, from the
glacial coastlines of Acadia National Park to the dramatic
tides of Cobscook and Passamaquoddy Bays. Explore villages
filled with America’s history, and FDR’s summer
home right next door on Campobello Island, Canada. Natural
wonders, lighthouses, shopping, and varied lodging and dining
choices can be found Downeast & Acadia. The coast offers
whale watching, puffin watching and seakayaking, while the
many lakes boast exceptional canoeing, fishing and hunting
opportunities. Hike, bike, climb, relax by the water’s
edge or explore the nooks and crannies of Downeast & Acadia.

Summer
Safety for Your Pet

Summertime
is perfect for fun and relaxation, and, of course, we want
to have Fido join the fun whether it be at the campground,
lake, or mountains!
Many
pets enjoy a dip in the lake or a swim in the pool. But if
your pet gets in the water, make sure he has a way out. Most
animals are natural swimmers, even if they don’t enjoy
water, and most drownings are caused by exhaustion. To ensure
your pet’s safety, NEVER let him swim unattended. If
your pet is too tired to climb out of the water, he will need
your help to lift him out. Large pets may need a special ramp
to climb back on a boat or out of a pool, which can be purchased
online. FAWS’ “Skamper-Ramp” is highly visible
to pets (white is easily seen by all animals) and attaches
effortlessly to pools, ponds and boats. Also consider a life
vest/floatation device. These are fairly inexpensive and most
models have handles to aid in lifting your pet from the water.
If you
want to take your best furry friend on vacation with you,
be sure to plan ahead to ensure her comfort and safety. Call
ahead and check motels' "pet policy" to be sure
your pet will be welcome. AAA provides a listing of "pet
friendly" places to stay. Bring plenty of food and water
from home. Some pets may become ill by drinking tap water
from a new source. Another must is a good strong lead. NEVER
let your animal roam free. By doing so you are not only endangering
her comfort and well-being, but also the comfort and security
of your neighbors - not to mention the possibility she may
panic and run! If you plan to camp, special tents can be purchased
for your pet, so she can lie in shade, comfort and security.

The
Newsletter Staff reviews recent movie releases.
Cars
(Rated G)
Cars, another well made film from Pixar, teaches the life
lesson about fame and fortune. Incredibly well made and stylish,
the characters bring out so much liveliness on the big screen.
The story revolves around a lightning fast rookie named Lightning
McQueen (Owen Wilson) and how he discovers that life is not
just about the finish line and glory and fame. This hilarious
comedy will make you laugh and leave you asking for a sequel.
Our Score:
(4 out of 4 Stethoscopes)
Nacho
Libre (Rated PG)
Nacho Libre stars Jack Black plays a ridiculous cook turned
wrestler. Some of the humor was unnecessary and unusual but
some of it is right on target. The movie is about a cook in
an orphanage that comes up with an idea to earn money for
better food for the children. Nacho Libre does not have universal
appeal, but if you’re a fan of Jack Black or enjoy wrestling,
you should like it.
Our
Score:
(2 1/2 out of 4 Stethoscopes)
Superman
Returns (Rated PG-13)
Superman Returns stars Brandon Routh as the Man of Steel,
who has just returned from a 5 year absence from Earth. He
gets his old job back at the Daily Planet, but discovers much
has changed in his absence. Superman Returns is good summer
fun. All of the special effects are eye-popping and captivating.
The action sequences are thrillingly staged and directed,
and from a big summer blockbuster, what more could you ask
for?
Our
Score:
(3 1/2 out of 4 Stethoscopes)
