High Demand for Therapists

Allied health professionals are needed across the country in a number of great-paying assignments.

This is an exciting time in the U.S. health care industry and particularly for the rapidly changing professions in therapy. Patients increasingly recognize therapists for their patient-centered care while health care providers are recognizing therapists for their unique areas of knowledge, expertise, and autonomy in practice. Therapists contribute to the health and wellness of many individuals in a variety of practice settings.

Employment of therapists is expected to grow faster then average for all occupations through 2012, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Favorite Nurses currently has openings for therapists! Per diem, travel and local contracts are available. See a sample of orders below. Contact an allied health recruiter at 866-535-1405 to learn more or visit us at www.favoritenurses.com to search for jobs and apply online!

Renewing Your CPR Online

Be sure the program you choose follows the guidelines set forth by Favorite Nurses.

As the 21st Century progresses, we are able to accomplish more and more on the information superhighway, even obtain a CPR certification! However, not all websites and programs are created equal, so Favorite Nurses has established the following guidelines:

Online CPR certification is allowed in the following circumstances:

  • Program is acceptable to the client.
  • Used for re-certification only.
  • BLS CPR program is accredited, approved or sponsored by the American Heart Association. ACLS CPR program is accredited, approved or sponsored by the American College of Emergency Physicians.
  • Observed skills validation at an approved training center must be part of the program.
  • Appropriate card is issued.

Check with your local branch office to see if your clients will accept online re-certifications. If so, visit the following websites for more information:

In November 2005, the American Heart Association published their updated guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. Changes were made to the Healthcare Provider Basic and Advance Life Support procedures. Please check the American Heart Association website.

National Blood Donor Month

Celebrate National Blood Donor Month by donating blood and encouraging others to do so.

Since 1970, January has been recognized as National Blood Donor Month. This year is no exception. Once again, the theme for this year's campaign, “Give Blood…The Gift of Life,” highlights the importance of giving the gift of life through the donation of blood.

Blood is traditionally in short supply during the winter months due to the holidays, travel schedules, inclement weather and illness. January, in particular, is a difficult month for blood centers to collect blood donations. A reduction in turnout can put our nation’s blood inventory at a critical low.

Every day in our country, approximately 38,000 units of blood are required in hospitals and emergency treatment facilities for patients with cancer and other diseases, for organ transplant recipients, and to help save the lives of accident victims. The goal is to help ensure that blood is available to patients whenever and wherever it is needed because it is the blood on the shelves that helps saves lives.

America's Blood Centers is a network of local non-profit community blood centers, which nationwide collected 6.75 million units of whole blood in 2000, that's about half of the U.S. blood supply. Located in 45 states, America's Blood Centers provide blood products and services to more than 3,100 hospitals nationwide. Please call 1-888-USBLOOD to find a blood center closest to you, or visit www.americasblood.org.

Keeping Your CEUs Up to Date

Make it your New Year's Resolution to stay educated.

Does your State Board require CEUs for license renewal? If so, Favorite Nurses can help. We understand that continuing education is an important part of healthcare. To offset the cost of this education, Favorite Nurses offers up to $100 per calendar year in reimbursement. A certificate of successful completion of the course and documentation of the amount paid for the course must be provided. Favorite Nurses will also reimburse you for ACLS certification. A shift requirement applies, so call your local branch office for details.

CEU State requirements are detailed on our website. In addition, you can visit www.nurseceu.com for a directory of sites that offer free or fee-based CEUs.
