Travel to Washington State

The Pacific Northwest offers natural beauty, impressive attractions and a wealth of healthcare opportunities.

As the smallest state west of the Rocky Mountains, Washington offers multiple distinct regions with wonders to satisfy everyone’s interests, from creations of nature like the rainforests and towering volcanoes to manmade structures such as the Space Needle and the Grand Coulee Dam. Travel to Washington and discover the excitement for yourself.

Washington StateTour the ancient cranberry bogs or taste the oysters for which this region is famous. Board a ferry to the islands of Washington for a spectacular view of Mount Baker standing at the edge of the continent. Summer is an excellent time to spot entire pods of orca from the boat or from the shore.

In the Olympic and Kitsap region, peer into tide pools teeming with life or trace a river through Quinault forest, one of the world's only coniferous rain forests.

Three major volcanoes - Mounts Rainier, St. Helens and Adams - rise like immense pyramids from the surrounding hills just a short drive from Seattle and Tacoma. While in Seattle, visit Pike Street Market, the oldest continually operating farmers' market in the country. Open year-round, this historic market is perched on a hillside overlooking Elliott Bay and features flying fish, farmers, artists and street performers.

Cures for the Summer Rerun

Bask in the sun and enjoy alternate forms of summer entertainment.

Summertime ActivitiesWith summer just underway, chances are that your favorite TV show has long since run it’s season finale. Baseball, barbeques and lazy days by the pool are standard warm weather fare. Why not add a little spice to the longer daylight hours with some events that only summer can offer? Here are a few special activities across the country guaranteed to delight summer enthusiasts of all ages:

  • Outdoor plays. Many communities offer an outdoor theater experience for a small ticket price or charitable donation. Pack a picnic and enjoy the show!
  • Special events at local parks. Along with natural beauty, some parks are becoming pretty high tech by featuring light or laser shows. A combination of colorful lasers, surround sound and special effects, the shows are typically choreographed to music. Look into some of the parks near you. You never know what you may find.
  • Unique concert events. Summer is the best time to enjoy a multitude of musical acts. Concerts for a variety of musical tastes abound at outdoor venues in the summer. A quick look through your local paper should yield a long list of musical events.

Other fun summer activities to consider:

  • Shop or stroll through historic districts in your city. It’s a wonderful way to spend some time and get to know your metropolis.
  • Catch a movie at the local drive-in. Yes! They still exist and are a much more economical way to see the hottest summer releases.
  • Visit local conservation departments and botanical gardens. Most offer tours and classes on the local flora and fauna.
